Resume for American Employers

Resume for American Employers

Job search in any country begins with a resume writing. And if we use a single term for a brief description of education and work experience – “summary”, then in the English-speaking world there are two of them – resume and CV. Therefore, to compile a resume for American employers, it is necessary to understand from the very beginning what is what.

Contrary to popular belief, resumes and CVs are different concepts. The resume includes that actual information which is necessary for reception of a concrete post. CV (curriculum vitae – in the Latin for “biography”) describes all work experience, achievements, publications and so on. In CV, all information is presented in chronological order, while in the abstract the topmost line is displayed on the top line – the last jobs. CV can be very voluminous, and the resume should be as short and capacious as possible.

You need to send a CV together with a Cover Letter to the employer. This is a cover letter. It is not less critical information block, which should be profitable to allocate the competitor against the background of dozens of other applicants for work.

How to stand out?

Americans value work on a voluntary basis for the benefit of society – volunteerism. In addition to the fact that the experience itself of such work will be advantageous in terms of acquiring skills, mention of it in summary positively characterizes and compares favorably with the applicant. Volunteer work will prove extremely useful for those who have not yet had time to acquire professional experience. You can start looking for work in the USA with participation in a volunteer program.

Is necessary to attach and recommendations from previous employers (References) to your CV. This is an essential part of the resume, which should be given particular attention. The lack of letters of recommendation for the US employer may mean that the applicant has not worked anywhere or that no employer can leave positive feedback about his former employee. Proposals from foreign companies will prove particularly useful. Here, volunteerism can also provide invaluable assistance. It is also possible to include recommendations from scientific leaders if during the study at the university there was a scientific work directly related to the specialty and future work. You can specify scientific publications if they exist.

But you need to be prepared for the fact that the potential employer can check all the information indicated in the summary and recommendations. Therefore, all letters of recommendation should contain the names, names and contact details of people on whose behalf they are composed.
