Before you complete the task of writing a mini-essay, you need to find out what a miniature is. A miniature is a text in brief form, on a topic that does not require detailed disclosure. In this work, fresh ideas and thoughts of the author must be expressed, which emphasize his attitude to the given topic.
Step 1. Determine the key idea of the chosen topic
So, you were given a theme, or you chose it yourself. Now you need to decide on your emotions. What do you feel when you think about a given topic, what thoughts, associations do you have. Remember all that flickers in your head. After that, write out the main idea for a draft, add a title, essential feelings and your attitude. Particular emphasis on small things. Since the volume limits us, every detail can be significant.
Step 2. Choose the means of expressiveness of speech
Now work on the exposition. In this you will be helped by various means of expressiveness of speech:
- epithets
- metaphors;
- comparison;
- hyperbole;
- litotes.
Step 3. Choose the optimal length of the sentence
Pay attention to the structure of your proposals. In miniature use mostly medium-length offers. Do not too often use long, complex sentences, overloaded with connections and homogeneous members. This can ruin your idea and confuse the reader, focusing only on one moment of writing. To convey liveliness, the passage of time, one can use sentences from one word, gradually supplementing them. For example “Runs. It’s roaring. Turned left. Has stopped. Looked. And, as if blown away, his shoulders dropping. Drooled slowly. And then he disappeared altogether.”
Step 4. Define the structure of the essay-miniatures
Next, we will work out the structure of our miniature. Here everything is the same as in the big story:
- a setting of 20%;
- the culmination of 60%;
- the end (interchange) 20%.
Start smoothly, consistently, then create tension and riddle, then write a denouement. It can be both sad and humorous. It can carry deep meaning, instruction, the question to the reader for reasoning and much more.
Step 5. Check the text
Is it completed? Now reread and analyze everything. Maybe it’s worth adding something, but removing something. If everything is in order, calmly hand over the work and wait for the evaluation.
